Expanding existing cities has several clear benefits. Large cities already have transport systems, hospitals, schools, and other public services. As a result, governments can provide additional housing without investing heavily in completely new infrastructure. Furthermore, people living in expanded urban areas can remain close to their workplaces, which reduces the need for relocation. This approach is often faster and less expensive in the short term.

However, I believe constructing new towns in rural areas offers greater long-term benefits. Many major cities are already overcrowded, with heavy traffic, rising house prices, and increasing pressure on public services. Building well-planned towns can reduce these problems while creating new economic opportunities outside large urban centres. If governments invest in transport links, education, healthcare, and employment, new towns can become attractive places to live and work. This strategy also encourages more balanced regional development instead of concentrating people in a few large cities.

In conclusion, although expanding existing cities is a practical short-term solution, I believe governments should give greater priority to building new towns. This approach provides more housing while supporting sustainable growth and improving living conditions across the country.
