Although some people argue that this money should be used to address problems on Earth, I believe that investment in space research is justified because it can produce scientific advances and practical benefits for society.

There are several reasons why space research can be a valuable use of public funds. First, it contributes to scientific knowledge and technological development. Research carried out for space missions has led to improvements in areas such as communications, weather forecasting and satellite technology. These developments can have practical applications in everyday life and support economic growth. Space research can also help scientists understand the Earth and monitor environmental changes. Satellites, for example, provide information about climate patterns and natural disasters, which can help governments respond more effectively to environmental threats.

However, it is understandable that some people question this spending because governments face many urgent problems on Earth. Public money is needed for healthcare, education, housing and poverty reduction, and these areas can have a direct effect on people’s quality of life. In poorer countries in particular, large investments in space programmes may seem difficult to justify when basic services are still inadequate. Nevertheless, this does not mean that space research should be abandoned. Governments can set reasonable budgets for scientific research while ensuring that essential public services receive sufficient funding. In this way, long-term scientific progress does not have to come at the expense of immediate social needs.

In conclusion, I believe that government spending on space research is a worthwhile use of public money when it is kept at a reasonable level. Its scientific and practical benefits can support society in the long term, provided that essential services on Earth remain a financial priority.
